Andrea Farnetani was born in San Miniato (PI) – Italy - in 1975. He received a degree in Physic in 2001 discussing a thesis in environmental acoustics about airport noise modelling of Pisa airport. In 2003 he received a degree in Applied Physics at University of Pisa discussing a thesis in the field of architectural acoustics about the qualification and design of an auditorium in Ferrara. In 2006 he received the Ph.D. (European Doctorate in Sound and Vibration Studies) at University of Ferrara with the thesis “Investigation on the Acoustics of Ancient Theatres by means of Modern Technologies”. The thesis won the prize “Ugo Magrini” of the Italian Thermotechnics Society and the prize “Gino Sacerdote” of the Italian Acoustical Society for the best Ph.D. thesis in acoustics of 2006.
He deals with measurements techniques, computer modelling and scale modelling for room acoustics. He took part in measurements campaigns in many theatres and concert halls. He also takes some lectures for the acoustics laboratory and has a professional activity in the field of environmental and architectural acoustics. He spent a research period at ITA in Aachen (Germany), where he worked on measurements and modelling techniques focused on scattering. He is member of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). He was part of the European Project on the acoustics of ancient theatres (ERATO) ended in January 2006 and he is currently research assistant at the Engineering Department of the University of Ferrara.
